Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Virginia Peninsula, Inc. (RSVP-VP) has 700 volunteers for more than 100 organizations throughout the Virginia Peninsula. We serve the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Williamsburg and the counties of York and James City.

Our volunteers are at least 55 years old, with an average age of 74.   They come from every imaginable type of background: teachers, housewives, aerospace engineers, the military, business, social services, local government, law enforcement and others. Some have lived here all their lives. Others have moved here recently.

Their common characteristic is wanting to make their lives more meaningful by helping others.

Many enjoy a few years of retirement before committing to volunteering. There is such a wide range of community volunteer needs that we can find a spot for just about any experience or interest.

Many RSVP-VP volunteers enjoy the personal touch; by tutoring school children;  providing pets for therapy at convalescent centers, providing information to visitors at the airport and being docents at museums; transporting people to medical appointments; delivering mail at the veteran's hospital, friendly visiting at retirement homes; delivering Meals-On-Wheels; staffing a crisis hot line. Organizations also benefit through help with clerical duties, telephone reception, assisting blood drives, participating in citizen safety patrols, serving on Boards of Directors and advisory bodies, working in hospital gift shops and similar activities.
