MISSION: The mission of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Virginia Peninsula, Inc. is to enhance the lives of persons 55 and older by providing opportunities and support for volunteers, and by advocating healthy life styles

WHO WE ARE:

  • Non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization;
  • Volunteer resource since 1972;
  • First RSVP in Virginia;
  • Only independent RSVP in Virginia;
  • Serves Newport News, Hampton, York County, James City County, Poquoson, and Williamsburg;
  • Funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula, all local governments, and from grants and private donations;
  • Source of volunteers for non-profit organizations, local government, and proprietary healthcare facilities.

WHAT WE DO:

  • Match volunteers to community needs;
  • Support volunteers through placement, mileage reimbursement, insurance, newsletters, volunteer appreciation events, and educational events;
  • More than 800 active volunteers;
  • More than 150 volunteer stations and 200 sites served by those stations;
  • More than 150,000 volunteers hours per year;
  • Promote senior safety and other issues through volunteer orientation, newsletter articles, civic group presentations, and other mechanisms;
  • Obtain grants for community education on senior citizen issues;

Our volunteers reflect the community. They live and serve in every Peninsula jurisdiction. Their commitment depends upon the heart.

  • Ages 55-64 = 10%
  • Ages 65-74 = 40%
  • Ages 75-84 = 40%
  • Over 84 yrs = 10%
