Fall Safety tips

  1. Before the cold weather comes have your furnace serviced by a qualified heating technician, to ensure that it is operating safely.

  2. Have you chimney inspected to make sure it is free from obstructions; make sure all vents are free of debris.

  3. Keep flammables away from furnace, clothing, cardboard boxes, paint thinners, fuels, and solvents.

  4. Be careful with space heaters, follow the manufacturers instructions for safe venting and use. Put heater at least three feet away from anything that is flammable, such as linens, clothing and furniture. Never leave them on when you are outside the room or asleep. Don’t use them to dry clothing, shoes or mittens.

    5.  With the daylight growing shorter in the fall make
sure all outdoor lighting is in perfect working order.
Good lighting aids against neighborhood crimes and
         falls prevention.

  5. Check home for water leaks

  6. Make sure there are working light at the top & bottom of all stairs.

  7. Make sure firewood is stacked and covered on top in a way that keeps out rain. But allow air to circulate to let firewood continue to dry.
