Virginia Peninsula. We have a place to volunteer

Some specific
types of help are:
- Deliver
nutritious meals to homebound persons through Meals On
Wheels.
- Provide a wide variety of services for
patients and their families in all local hospitals.
- Friendly visitation and light assistance (letter
reading, bill paying, game playing, etc.) in retirement
and convalescent facilities.
- Provide public
information at city hall, airport, law enforcement
outreach station and as a museum docent.
- Help to
build and repair homes through Habitat for Humanity and
a volunteer home repair agency.
- Provide support
activities for Senior Centers, adult day care
facilities, Red Cross blood drives, food banks and
emergency food/ shelter programs, libraries, thrift
shops and others.
- Clerical and reception services for
a wide range of organizations (day care centers,
churches, hospitals, Red Cross, etc).
- Tutor school
children who are below grade level in reading and math
and working with preschool children in Head Start.
- Help with character development programs, including
scouting and a girl's club.
- Sew/ quilt/ knit items
for hospital and convalescent center patients (lap
robes, baby caps, wheelchair pads, toys, etc.).
- Work
with law enforcement agencies to make the community
safer.
- Provide entertainment for seniors in various
programs.
- Serve on Boards and advisory bodies helping
community organizations plan and oversee quality human
services.
- Work with the Court systems as Court
Appointed Special Advocates and other services.
- Help
seniors fill out their income taxes.
